Hello, I have a company provided HP Elitebook 845 G7 that I need to purchase a docking station for.  I was initially looking at the HP Thunderbolt Dock 120W G4.  Does anyone know if this dock will work?

@JP3006,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

I have an HP ZBook Firefly 15.6 inch G8 Mobile Workstation PC, which appears to be very similar to your HP Elitebook 845 G7.

I happen to use a Lenovo ThinkPad Universal Thunderbolt 4 Dock, and I like it a lot -for dual monitors, charging laptop, etc.:

[EDIT:] But I digressed.  Yes, I am quite confident that an HP Thunderbolt Dock 120W G4 will work just fine for you.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,

@NonSequitur777   Thank you very much...... I am glad to be part of the User Forum.

I appreciate the quick reply on the G4 Dock.  I am still looking around and did see the Lenovo, Kensington and CalDigit docks.  I don't have a ton of TB4 items to connect currently, but my company updates our laptops regularly and I am hoping to future proof a little.  The one benefit I see with the HP dock is being able to power on with my laptop lid closed.  I have several monitors and do not use my laptop screen.

Thank you again,

@JP3006,

You are welcome.

Btw, the picture I attached in my previous post shows both the Lenovo dock and my HP ZBook -as you can see, the laptop is closed, as I can use a plugged-in keyboard & mouse to power my laptop on and off.  This feature is not unique to HP docks.

Kind Regards,

NonSequitur777     Thank you for the follow up.  I did notice that in your previous message with the photo.

So I have been fortunate enough with my last few laptops that I have a HP slim docking station that they have all clipped in to and I am able to keep the lid closed and use the docking station mechanical power button to turn the laptop on and off with.  The Elitebook 845 that I was just given does not work with the HP slim dock.  So I am going to purchase a dock with the hopes that it will work with this laptop and some future laptops.  So that is the reason I was initially looking at HP docks.  They have a mechanical button on top that will power, hibernate and sleep HP laptops.  I am debating right now how important that feature is, since there are other docks out there that have better port configuration and price.

Does the power button on your Lenovo dock power on the dock itself?

Sorry for the novel and Thank You again........

@JP3006,

You're welcome -I never power down my dock, but yes, the power button you can see in the right bottom corner powers the dock on and off.

Kind regards,
