Hello. I have an HP EliteBook 845 G7 Notebook PC with an AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 4650U with Radeon Graphics, and 16.00 GB (15.33 GB usable) of Total Memory. I also have 237 GB on my local disk (C: Drive). What upgrades can I make to this laptop that will actually help it function better?

@Ksedko,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

Thank you for sharing the specs of your HP EliteBook 845 G7! This is a solid business-class laptop, and you already have a capable Ryzen 5 PRO 4650U CPU and 16 GB of RAM, which is great for most productivity tasks. That said, here are the practical upgrade paths to help improve performance:

1. Storage Upgrade – Move to a Larger & Faster SSD:

Your 237 GB drive is likely a 256 GB M.2 NVMe SSD. If you're feeling cramped for space or want faster read/write speeds:

  • Upgrade to a 500 GB or 1 TB PCIe NVMe SSD (Gen 3 x4).

  • Recommended brands: Samsung 970 EVO Plus, WD Black SN770, Crucial P5 Plus.

  • You can use cloning software (e.g., Macrium Reflect Free) to copy your current drive to the new SSD. If you need help with this, let me know

  • Make sure to back up data.

2. Memory (RAM) Upgrade:

You have 16 GB RAM, and HP states 32 GB as the max officially supported.

  • If your usage involves heavy multitasking, VMs, or large Excel files, you can upgrade to 32 GB (2×16 GB) DDR4-3200 SODIMM.

  • Use matching memory for dual-channel performance.

  • Check if both slots are accessible -some G7 models have one soldered and one socketed slot.

3. General Maintenance Tips to Boost Performance:

What You Can’t Upgrade:

  • CPU and integrated GPU are soldered (non-upgradable).

  • The display.

If you're in France, you can find compatible SSDs and RAM at trusted retailers like LDLC, Materiel.net, or Amazon.fr. Let me know if you'd like specific product recommendations or help opening your EliteBook!

Kind Regards,
