HP Recommended

We bought an Envy x360 a little over 2 years ago.  Our laptop has been sitting on our table at home nearly all the time and has only been opened like a laptop, not all the way around to tablet mode.  A couple weeks ago, when I opened it the left hinge simply broke.  A small piece of plastic fell out, and the broken hinge has pried the screen away from the back panel.  I’m worried we’ll damage it if we try to close it.

We were disappointed when we realized the warranty had expired.   When we searched the HP community for similar issues, we learned that this issue is a known and fairly common defect that many people have encountered and posted about here since 2022, yet we heard nothing about it when we bought the laptop, despite reading several online reviews prior to our purchase.

A local repair shop told us it would most likely cost $150 -$350 to replace the hinge.  Hopefully, HP has since resolved the design issue and has developed a solution to help customers encountering the failure without forcing them to pay to fix a problem caused by a manufacturer defect.
