Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an HP Laptop, Windows 10, Pentium Silver.
Aside from this laptop being very slow and glitchy, my main concern is that this laptop is constantly trying to get me to do updates.

Every time this laptop does an "Update," the "Update" either doesn't update successfully or it updates but then "Restarting" my laptop gets stuck in this "Preparing Automatic Repair" loop. Usually this takes me to the screen where it tells me that 'the laptop failed to start up correctly.' This screen gives me 2 prompts: 1. "Restart" (or Shut Down). 2. "Advanced Options." So, upon clicking "Advanced Options" I am given other prompts. I try to click "Continue" and I find myself in the "Preparing Automatic Repair" loop again. I try to "Troubleshoot." And so far I have managed to "Reset" my laptop. This has allowed me to gain access to my laptop. But these seems so unconventional.

I understand that there is the option to go into "Settings" and "Pause" any current updates. However, I recently tried to do this and my laptop is not giving me the "Pause" option. It is there, but it's faded out and I cannot click on it. And I get nowhere in "Advanced Options."

I do not always see the need for my laptop to make me do all these updates. I don't necessarily need Windows 11. I don't know why I need a new LAN Driver!  Even still, whenever I try to "Install" the things that are supposedly needed to be installed, I keep getting this "Retry" prompt, as if the "Installation" did not take.

What am I to do? I don't have the money to fix this laptop. Even selling it, won't give me back the money I paid for it—in order to buy a better laptop.

Is there a way that I can be in control of what I want Installed and Updated? Is there really a better alternative to accessing my laptop, than having to "Reset" my laptop whenever it decides to put me through that annoying "Preparing Automatic Repair" loop? I just want to access my laptop. I want to be able to "Shut Down" my laptop and turn it on and access my laptop, without having to cut corners and go through such problems. Who knew that spending over $300 on a laptop was going to weigh me down with so much stress. I apologize. I get so easily frustrated with this laptop.

But I need help!

Let's try these steps to resolve the issue:

  1. In Windows Update, click Change settings.
  2. Click the drop-down menu underneath Important Updates, and then select your desired setting.
  3. Check the box next to Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates.
  4. Click Ok to save your setting.
