HP Pavilion 15-AU057CL

Hello,

I've been working on an older laptop (Pavilion 15-AU057CL) and I've had some fan issues. The job required me to replace the power connector as the old one was damaged from the system being dropped. During the replacement process, I also noticed that the battery was going bad (before test charging after installing the new connector). Once the new connector was installed, there were random moments where the fan would freak out making loud cracking noises and the only solution to stop the noise was to unplug the power adapter and plug back in. Since I just replaced the power connector I was thinking that it migh be drawing too much power, however, after running the system live without the base panel, I determined that when I unplugged the laptop battery while the system was on and the fan was still making noises (power adapter is still connected at this point to the wall outlet), that the fan would stop freaking out? I tested further by leaving the battery disconnected and running only on power via the adapter and did not experience this issue? 

Is there a possibility that my laptop battery is drawing too much power and causing this due to the battery going bad? Also, are these specific models known to have faulty fans that requires a replacement? Maybe it's a combination of the two? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If your device is overheating, please remember the below information:

NOTE: Generally, when temperatures inside the case rise above 35 degrees Celsius (95 degrees Fahrenheit), the risk of damaging important internal components increases greatly.

 

Also, to avoid the CPU damage, we do not recommend throttling or overclocking the CPU, I recommend you refrain from using high-performance games on this laptop as it's not built for the same.

 

I would suggest you refer to the support documents as this will help you in resolving the issue.

 

Let's start off by updating the Bios, Chipset and graphics card drivers on your PC from our HP support website, using this link.

Also, download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.

The best way to do that is using the HP Guided Troubleshooter:

If you have followed the instructions and still having issues,

Let's try to run an extensive system test from F2 and check if the hardware components on your PC are functioning correctly.

 

1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.

2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second.

When the menu appears, press the F2 key.

3. On the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu, click System Tests.

4. Click Extensive Test.

5. Click Run once, or Loop until error.

While the test is running, the time remaining and test result for each component are

shown on the screen.

6. If a component fails a test, write down the failure ID (24-digit code) so you have it

available when you contact HP Customer Support. The information is also available in

Test Logs on the main menu.
