Common problems for Battery

If my laptop is plugged in, it will sometimes just occasionally shut down. This has been happening for about the past two weeks, and I haven't found a way to recreate it. When it shuts down I get a Kernel-Power 41 error with no additional information. The laptop doesn't know why it shut down and I get no bluescreen. I have tried updating my BIOS and updating drivers to no avail. I also replaced my battery a couple months ago for a separate issue, but that shouldn't be a problem because this only occurs while plugged in.

Just this morning I also found what I currently believe is a loose charging port, as now my laptop will sometimes not charge while plugged in, and moving the charger to a certain direction seems to help. I have not been able to replicate the shutdowns with this though, so they could be completely unrelated issues.

Could the shutdown problem be caused by the latter issue? If so, is there a part I can replace to fix it?

I tried draining the flea power, it didn't help.

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue.

Let's try these steps to resolve the issue:

  1. In Windows, search for and open View advanced system settings.

  2. Click Settings in the Startup and Recovery section.

  3. Remove the check mark next to Automatically restart, and then click OK.

Location of the Automatically restart check box

  4. Restart the computer.

The computer no longer restarts automatically or shutdown when a problem occurs.

If the issue persists, I would suggest here is to run an extensive system test from F2 and check if the hardware components on your PC are functioning correctly.

1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.

2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second.

When the menu appears, press the F2 key.

3. On the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu, click System Tests.

4. Click Extensive Test.

5. Click Run once, or Loop until error.

While the test is running, the time remaining and test result for each component are

shown on the screen.

6. If a component fails a test, write down the failure ID (24-digit code) so you have it

available when you contact HP Customer Support. The information is also available in

Test Logs on the main menu.

Hello, I have tried both of these and they unfortunately did not work. The first time I ran the extensive test it gave me a notice that I needed to calibrate my battery with no other errors. I calibrated my battery and ran the test once more, but got the same result as it said I needed to recalibrate my battery.

I don't believe the battery is the issue, but I'm not sure. Is there anything else I can try?

If the charging port is getting sloppy, it needs to be replaced. They don't get better they get worse. However, HP doesn't list a Service Manual for that model, so I can't look up the part number. They usually are replaceable, but can't say for sure without the service manual.

The charging port is definitely loose and I plan to replace it, but could that be the cause of the spontaneous shutdowns?

Could anyone possibly point me to where I could purchase a new charging port? The only ones I could find that specifically mentioned the laptop I have were on AliExpress and would take more than a month to ship.

@csnow99

Thank you for posting back.

This sounds like a hardware issue, to be sure you can check with the alternate Ac adapter.
If it's a faulty Ac adapter you can purchase one from the retail store or if your product is under one year HP Manufacturer Warranty you can get one from us.

Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hello, I have tried other chargers and believe it is an issue with the port itself. My laptop is not under warranty, and thus I plan to replace it myself. Is there a place I can purchase a new charging port online?

Without a service manual, we're in the same boat as you. Can you get a part number off the Ali Express site? Barring that, you may be able to see the part number if you remove the bottom cover.
