Hello everyone!
I’m having an issue with my HP Victus 15 laptop and would appreciate any guidance or similar experiences.
Problem description:
- The integrated camera simply doesn’t show up in any application (Zoom, Teams, Windows Camera, etc.).
- When opening Device Manager, there’s no “Cameras” section or any device that could be the webcam.
What I’ve tried so far:
- Reinstalling drivers: I searched for and installed both the official HP drivers and generic camera drivers, without success.
- Windows updates: The system is fully up to date with no pending patches.
- Adding legacy hardware: I tried using “Add legacy hardware” in Device Manager but don’t know which option to choose or which driver to associate to make the camera section appear.
What I need to know:
- Does anyone know where or how to correctly add legacy hardware so that Windows recognizes the webcam?
- Is there an alternative method (PowerShell, HP utilities, reinstalling IC packages) to force the device detection?
- Any recommendations for hardware diagnostics to rule out the camera being physically disconnected?
Any suggestions, step‑by‑step instructions, or third‑party utilities would be extremely helpful. Thank you in advance! 😊

Hi @Sufaqua,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your laptop!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Ensure Device Manager is Displaying Hidden Devices:
- In Device Manager, click on "View" from the top menu and select "Show hidden devices."
- Check if the camera appears after enabling this setting.
Check Windows Privacy Settings:
- Go to Settings > Privacy > Camera.
- Ensure that the toggle for "Allow apps to access your camera" is turned on.
- Also, scroll down to check if the specific applications like Zoom or Teams have access permissions enabled.
Update BIOS:
- Sometimes, a BIOS update might resolve hardware detection issues. Visit the HP Support website and check if there's a BIOS update available for your model.
- Follow the instructions carefully to update the BIOS.
Reinstall Camera Device:
- If the camera is listed under "Imaging devices" or "Other devices" (possibly as an unknown device), right-click it and choose "Uninstall device."
- After uninstalling, restart your laptop. Windows should attempt to reinstall the device upon boot.
System File Check:
- Run a System File Check in Command Prompt as administrator to ensure no corrupted files are affecting device detection:sfc /scannow
HP Pre-Installed Apps:
- Check if HP has any specific utility pre-installed for hardware detection like HP Support Assistant which can sometimes resolve hardware recognition issues.
Windows Troubleshooter:
- Use the Windows built-in troubleshooter.
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters and run the troubleshooter for "Camera."
I hope this helps.
