Hello,
I'm planning to reuse my old Pavilion dv2708tu. As the product name suggests, my laptop has a UMA/Integrated graphics subsystem.
I'm doing two things:
- I am obtaining a 12-cell battery for this laptop here.
- I am planning to swap the system board out with one that has discrete graphics, for more powerful graphics performance. (I am aware of thermal issues of this notebook, and the discrete graphics chip; I use a workaround using pennies as thermal material, reducing the heat produced by this machine.)
While looking at the service manual for this laptop here, I found a miscellaneous part named "90-W PFC AC adapter". I currently have a 65 watt AC adapter. I was worried, fearing that my 65 watt AC adapter was under powered for certain tasks.
So, I have two questions: Will I need this 90 watt adapter to...
- Charge the 12-cell battery? (I assume this is a yes, but I want to make sure)
- Use the system board with discrete graphics?
Thank you in advance!

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.
After reading your post, I did go through the Product specifications of your product and found that 65W Ac Adapter shipped with the computer.
To get the answer to this question, Yes! 90W Adapter is required to power up the 12-cell battery.
NOTE: HP does not recommend upgrading or downgrading hardware parts or software that is bundled with the product as It may affect the manufacturer's warranty and performance, however, you could change the configuration at your own discretion.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
