OMEN 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop PC 15-en1000 (2L1F1AV)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am looking to update the ram for my omen 15.

Will this ram operate at 3200 MHz, as there is no way to set an XMP profile at bios?

@gray725,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

This is a challenging and perhaps awkward question to answer.  I happened to be unsuccessful with a different G.SKILL Gaming RAM set to get it to run at its max RAM speed. You see, HP computers are rather finnicky overall when it comes to RAM -and RAM speed in particular.

The original RAM that came with your laptop -likely: L46598-001 ("MEM 8GB 3200MHz 1.2v DDR4") was the Micron MTA8ATF1G64HZ-3G2J1, 8 GB DDR4 PC4-25600S, 3200 MHz, Non-EEC, SODIMM, CL22, 1.2 v 260-pin RAM.

According to http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06638088.pdf, your laptop should be able to handle 2 x 16GB of DDR4 3200 MHz RAM, but Crucial: https://www.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/hp---compaq/hp-omen-15-en1000, says that your laptop can be fitted with up to 2 x 32GB of DDR4 PC4-25600, 3200 MHz, Non-EEC, SODIMM, 260-pin RAM.

But for Gaming purposes, you really don't need 64GB of RAM -32GB (2 x 16GB) will suffice nicely.

Anyway, based on my own personal experience, I would be reluctant to buy G.SKILL RAM, if only because of the lack of XMP BIOS access like you mentioned.

You would be better served, in my opinion, to 'stick' to Samsung or Crucial RAM, in order to have RAM that is far more likely to actually run at 3200 MHz.  Please consider these two options:

1.) Samsung 16GB DDR4 3200MHz SODIMM PC4-25600 CL22 2Rx8 1.2V 260-Pin SO-DIMM Laptop Notebook RAM Memory Module M471A2K43DB1-CWE as seen here, for example: https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-3200MHz-PC4-25600-Notebook-M471A2K43DB1-CWE/dp/B08QR2YGKX/ref=sr_1_5?...

2.) Crucial RAM 32GB Kit (2x16GB) DDR4 3200MHz CL22 (or 2933MHz or 2666MHz) Laptop Memory CT2K16G4SFRA32A, as seen here, for example: https://www.crucial.com/memory/ddr4/ct2k16g4sfra32a/ct20366842.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,
