Microsoft Windows 11

Good afternoon all,

I have a HP Pavilion G Series laptop running Win 10, and have just bought a new HP Pavilion 15 touchscreen laptop with Win 11.

I don't want to re-install everything from my old laptop so is there a way to migrate everything from that to my new one without having to re-install it all?

Kind regards

It really depends on your definition of "migrate everything from that to my new one "  Data such as pictures, videos, or documents can be copied to a USB flash drive and then copied to the new laptop.  Do not remove any of the data from the old laptop but copy it, leaving the original data items intact.

If you are talking about software programs, they cannot be moved in that manner but need to be reinstalled on the new device.  They do make software to transfer programs, but going to Windows 11 might be a problem.  Give Laplink PCmover a glance, but it is payware.  There may be free alternatives, but you will need some research to search them out.  Unless some kind soul on these forums will assist.

There are a few of the "migration" apps out there. This one says it works on a 10 to 11 migration:

Thanks for the replies both.

I will have a look at your suggestions.

Photos etc., aren't a problem as they are backed up to One Drive etc., anyway, it is more in terms of software I am thinking of.

As I mentioned and @Huffer , there are utilities that can move the software apps but the best is to reinstall from the install disks or the software.  Most will need the product key, but you can use different software to find the keys on the old device.  Belarc Advisor or Magical JellyBean can find software keys for free, but it might not find all of them.  Try out what you have or can get before doing the job.

Here is a website that lists software - Laplink PC mover and others that will do the job.

Thanks for the reply.

I have Belarc Advisor on the old laptop, what I may not have are the discs!

When I bought my old laptop I am sure there was a HP feature that basically copied one disk drive onto another, i.e. from one HP laptop to another one.  Don't recall having to reinstall everything on my old laptop when I bought it.

Thanks for the help though.
