I opened my hp stream ak0519sa to fix the trackpad as it was sticking, did everything with the ribbon cables and now it won't ever power on

Nothing got broken so what's happening?

Has anyone got a guide on how they're ment to lay, like if the white stripes are ment to be facing up or down ect?

Hi @Cow4

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how worrying it feels when the laptop refuses to power on after you’ve carefully worked on the trackpad.

You’ve already taken the right step by checking the ribbon cables, so let’s go through a structured set of checks to bring the HP Stream back to life.

Power reset

  • Disconnect the AC adapter and remove any connected peripherals.
  • Hold down the power button for 15–20 seconds to discharge residual power.
  • Reconnect the adapter and try powering on again.

Check ribbon cable orientation

  • Ribbon cables usually have a white or blue stiffener strip at one end.
  • The exposed copper contacts must face down toward the connector pins on the motherboard.
  • The white/blue strip faces upward, away from the board, acting as a grip for insertion.
  • Ensure the cable is fully seated and the locking tab (if present) is pushed down to secure it.

Inspect connections

  • Verify that all ribbon cables (keyboard, trackpad, power button board) are firmly connected.
  • Even a slightly loose cable can prevent the system from powering on.
  • Check that the battery connector is properly seated on the motherboard.

Test without battery (if removable)

  • If your model allows, disconnect the battery and try powering on with the AC adapter only.
  • This helps confirm whether the battery connection is interfering.

Check for signs of power

  • Observe if the charging LED lights up when the adapter is connected.
  • If no light appears, try another compatible adapter to rule out power supply issues.

Reassemble carefully

  • Ensure no cable is pinched or folded sharply when closing the chassis.
  • A misaligned ribbon can prevent startup even if nothing is visibly broken.

By reseating the ribbon cables with the correct orientation (contacts down, white/blue strip up), checking the battery and adapter connections, and performing a full power reset, the laptop should regain its ability to power on.
