Can I install an extra SSD in HP OMEN 17. I have seen that there seems to be some space. If Yes, are then size limitations?

Here is the Service Manual:

Manual

According to specs, your laptop was sold with a 512 gig NVME M.2 SSD. There are two M.2 slots. Start on p. 30 to remove the back cover, which is fully OK for end user to do.

You can add another 2280 form factor M.2 SSD. Even though it speaks of an Optane module being used, both slots can handle a large capacity NVME M.2 for either storage or boot disk (only one boot disk). No limit on size. 2 TB M.2 SSD widely available. Post back with any more questions and please accept as solution if this is the info you needed.
