HP Notebook - 17-ca1027na
Microsoft Windows 11

I bought this HP notebook in September 2020 from HP online website, along with a 3 year Care Pack which expires in September 2023

 A few weeks ago the right hinge started to work loose. It now appears to be broken and the case is starting to split apart.  I reported this to HP technical support and they insist it is damage and are quoting £253 for the repair.  The HP Care Pack is an extension of the warranty which states that "if the product is defective, HP will repair or replace the product or refund the purchase price upon return of the product, at HP's option. I explained that the laptop had not been damaged and that the problem was due to the failure of an internal component - but they still insisted that they view it as damage. I feel strongly that HP are reneging on their responsibilities under their warranty. iIhave since discovered that there have been many thousands of cases where hinges on HP notebooks have failed. It has been demonstrated that this is due to faulty design, and In the US, users are proposing to take a class action lawsuit against HP over this issue. There are also many examples on this forum if you search for "broken hinge".

Has anyone had this problem and been able to get it fixed under the warranty?

@429939,

Since this defective hinge-issue is under active litigation ("HP Laptop Defect Class Action Lawsuit"), this is a very sensitive subject for HP. In the meanwhile, if you haven't done so already, I would submit a dispute for documentation's sake as shown in this HP video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTMvck49GP4.

Kind Regards,
