Omen 17-w200na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Just noticed a severe swelling in my Omen 17 battery.

As many others have posted regarding this I am looking to get this replaced, free of charge.

I am an I.T. Professional so am more than capable of doing this myself.

This seems to be a dangerous issue and I cannot understand why the battery recall programme at

https://batteryprogram687.ext.hp.com/

tells me my battery does NOT need to be recalled despite a plethora of posters saying they have had the same issue and have had battery replacements sent free of charge.

I'm not adverse to taking the matter further, unfortunately the retailer I bought it from is not trading any longer so it would be initially through my credit card company under Section 75 rules with a view to launching an action in the Small Claims Court if need be.

Of course, here in the UK we are protected from faulty produts for a number of years under consumer law so I will not accept any excuse about warranties being out of date, as once again there is PLENTY of evidence available that the Omen 17 batteries are not fit for purpose, especially after only a short time.

Surely my house doesn't have to catch fire before I get this battery replaced?

Hopefully a mod can help out here.

Thanks in advance.

edit:  so, whipped the battery out before it exploded in my sons' hands or face....

Totally unacceptable that the battery app (as above) tells me that there is no recall for my battery and that it is SAFE TO USE!

Oh really.....

Seems I am far from alone judging from these forums:

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Gaming-Notebooks/HP-Omen-laptop-battery-swollen/m-p/7349952

etc

It MUST be the case that there is a serious problem with the PF06XL battery and it should immediately be added to the recall list before a serious injury occurs.

I hope to hear soon how I am able to have this inherently faulty part replaced.

Just as an FYI - this £1500 laptop, under 4 years old, is completely NOT SUPPORTED by HP any longer.  They say they only manufacture parts for 3 years FROM RELEASE, not from when you bought it lol.

They phoned to tell me they do not make parts for it any more and there is not even a paid for solution.

Batteries should NOT swell up and attempt to burst though the casing Alien style under normal circumstances.  Why on earth the battery is not part of the recall I cannot understand given the other users here, and elsewhere, complaining of the same thing.

Luckily I bought the laptop on credit card, so I will use Section 75 rules to claim an inherent fault under UK consumer law as I will argue the situation is due to "manufacter defect" - easy enough to point the finger in this direction given HP track record with batteries in recent years.

Just a word of warning to anyone else - HP will not help!
