Another issue is that the bios will have a 'Whitelist' of allowed hardware ( the ATI mobility Radeon HD 6370 is not on this list )

**bleep** ???

You people are crazy or what...my HP ProBook 4720s came with that video card and you tell now it's not compatible ... that is why my laptop is overheating...

I was at serivices all the time becouse of that problem. That is good to know, now i can ask for new laptop from HP becouse it's your fault my laptop keeps shutting down and that interupts my work all the time. Or you will have to refund all the money I spend on trying to find what is wrong with it...

hii,
can you help me ? i have i3 330M on my 4720s and whant to change it with i7 740Qm,

I agree for i7-620M (listed in the BIOS F.60 Rev.A(30 nov. 2015), which is Q1'10

Are you sure for the i7-640M ??? because it's Q3'10 and doesn't not appear to be recognized (or listed) by the BIOS !!

That's the reason why I bought a i7-620M last week - in order not to be disappointed

Anyway, the only differences are :

the mutiplier (x20 or x21, so 133Mhz less),

i7-620M seems to be embeded (while i7-640M not)

Hi

How did you get the list of supported CPUs ? (I was looking for few weeks ago !)

Why did the i7-640M is not listed ? not supported ? even in the Latest BIOS F.60 Rev.A(30 nov. 2015) ???

Regards

Hi there,

I am looking at upgrading my HP Probook 4720s from i3 to i7.

Can you advise if this is the correct cpu...

Intel Core i7 620M SLBPD CPU 2.66 GHz Socket G1 4MB CPU Laptop Processor

and is it straight forward to do this or does it need soldering etc...

A tutorial would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Hi.

the i7-620M is the ultimate CPU for this PROBOOOK.

Make sure you have the Latest BIOS F.60 Rev.A(30 nov. 2015) installed before proceeding.

The replacement is easy (some screws to access the CPU), there"s a lot of videos for "CPU replacement (or any other part) in Youtube

Yoy should type 'HP 4720s CPU' or '4720s replacement' or '4720s upgrade"  ... in the search bar (Google, Youtube)

Enjoy.

I upgraded for a i7-920M 2 years ago, and also change my HDD for a SSD, this PROBOOK is also compatible for migration to the latest Windows  (Windows 10 (july 2015, Win 10 Anniversary (summer 2016) and the latest Win 10 Creators).

Enjoy.

Just a last recommandation : while you replace tjhe CPU, make sure to replace the original thermal pad for the THERMAL GRIZZLY Kryonaut, both for the CPU AND the GPU.

Can you confirm that this is the correct CPU?

Intel Core i7 620M SLBPD CPU 2.66 GHz Socket G1 4MB CPU Laptop Processor

Also how do I check what bios I have installed?

thanks in advance
