Hi @peter887,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for explaining the issue. I understand how frustrating it is to suddenly lose the built-in sound, especially when the laptop is only a couple of years old. The fact that your Bluetooth speaker works is helpful, so I would not assume that the internal speakers are permanently gone.

Since you are using Windows 11 Home 25H2, please try the following steps in order.

1. Check the default audio device

  1. Right-click the speaker icon on the taskbar and select Sound settings
  2. Under Output, make sure your laptop's internal Speakers are selected.
  3. Select More sound settings
  4. Under the Playback tab, select the internal speakers.
  5. Click Set Default, if available, and then Test

If the internal speakers are not listed at all, please proceed to the next step. 

2. Check the audio device in Device Manager

  1. Search for and open Device Manager
  2. Expand Sound, video and game controllers
  3. Look for the audio device, such as Realtek Audio
  4. If it has a down-arrow, right-click it and select Enable device.
  5. If it is enabled, right-click it and select Update driver > Search automatically for drivers

If updating does not resolve the issue, HP recommends uninstalling the audio device and allowing Windows to reinstall it:

  1. Right-click the audio device.
  2. Select Uninstall device
  3. If offered, select the option to remove the driver.
  4. Restart the computer.
  5. Test the sound again.

3. Check Windows Update

Go to: Settings > Windows Update > Advanced options > Optional updates

If an audio driver is available, install it and restart the computer. 

4. Run the HP Audio Hardware Diagnostic
This is the most important step before we conclude that there is a hardware problem.

Open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows and go to: Component Tests > Audio > Audio Playback Test

Run the test and follow the instructions on the screen. If the test fails, please write down the 24-digit Failure ID. That code will tell us much more about the condition of the audio hardware. 

If the Audio Playback Test passes but Windows still has no sound, let us know the result. We can then determine the appropriate next step rather than having you install random Realtek drivers.

Please also let us know what audio device is shown under Device Manager > Sound, video and game controllers, and whether the built-in Speakers appear under Sound settings.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
