I am trying to replace the keyboard and the ZIF connector lock for the ribbon is difficult. I'm afraid to force too hard lest I damage the connector. There appears to be no "holder-downers" in the way. Can you help me please? I'm 92 years old and DO NOT want to mess up my computer!

From page 66 of the following manual, it is very simple

Regards.

Many thanks for your reply: however, the info to which you referred me in the manual I already have, that is, I had already found the ZIF and the lock. My question was about opening the lock without causing damage. Is there a method I'm missing? Also, the diagrams are all related to the G1 though the manual is supposed to apply to the G2 as well. Can you help me with the mechanical problem I describe? Many thanks.

The Manual covers the 350 G1 and the 355 G2 and yours as I understand is a 350 G1. The difference is whether it has an Intel (350) or AMD (355) processor.
I looked at the Manual and it does not show very clearly how to open the zif connector for the keyboard ribbon. This image shows what type of zif connector you have and how to open it:
lift up on black part, thus releasing ribbon cable
The hinged clip part on your laptop may not be black but it rotates up from flat to standing up and when it does it releases the "pinch" on the ribbon cable and allows you to remove it. Take a wide blade screwdriver with a thin edge and slide it under the hinged part and gently but firmly pop it up. Be careful not to take it out of the hinges on both ends of it. You can get it back in but its hard to do. When replacing the keyboard slide the ribbon cable in and then push the hinged piece back down to flat, squeezing down on the ribbon cable and locking it in place.
Hope this helps and please accept as solution so others can find this if they are having issues with zif cables. This is only one type of zif lock and may not apply to all laptop models.
