The fan on my HP All in One PC 27-cr1 keeps running.  I have updated all the drivers and the Bios. I have shut off all extraneous programs so I am only running Chrome and the essentials.   I have vacuumed out the vents (there was no dust though). Any clue as to why this is happening?

Thanks,

Hi @Kim1379,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • Does the fan run at high speed all the time, or does it fluctuate depending on usage?
  • Have you noticed the system getting unusually warm, or is it staying cool despite the fan noise?
  • Did this behavior start after a recent Windows update or BIOS update?

In the meantime, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Check Task Manager for Background Load
    • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
    • Look under Processes for any apps or services using high CPU or memory. Even Chrome tabs can sometimes spike usage.
  2. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics
    • Restart your PC and press Esc repeatedly, then select F2 – System Diagnostics.
    • Run a full component test, especially the Thermal test, to check if sensors are reporting abnormal temperatures.
  3. Adjust Power Settings
    • Go to Settings → System → Power & Battery → Additional Power Settings.
    • Select Balanced or HP Recommended instead of High Performance, which can keep fans running.
  4. Update Graphics Driver
    • Sometimes the GPU driver can cause extra heat or fan activity. Ensure your graphics drivers are up to date from HP Support or the manufacturer’s site.
  5. BIOS Thermal Settings
  • Enter BIOS Setup (press Esc → F10 during startup).
  • Check if there are any thermal or fan control options available. Resetting to defaults can sometimes help.

If the fan continues to run at high speed even when the system is idle and cool, it may indicate a sensor or hardware issue.

I hope this helps.
