Hello @jasonklamm
I strongly advise you to go back to Windows 10 as your notebook model [ HP Laptop PC 17z-Ca300 CTO ] is not fully tested and certified by HP for Windows 11. |
(1) Backup <all> personal data (documents/pictures/videos etc...) to external USB hard drive
(2) --->>> Please reinstall your operating system !
You need (another computer or you current notebook) to prepare bootable <USB flash drive>
1C0G4AV is supported
HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool in Windows 10

I have two concerns:
1) I've been using Windows 11 since a few months into owning this Laptop, as HP offered a free upgrade to Windows 11, and there was no problem till the other day
2) There is one other potential issue, I'm realizing I didn't put this in my main post and I should have. This touchpad is new to the computer (I bought a new bottom shell from a third party), but it is compatible with my existing HP (again, it works in BIOS) but it is not the touchpad that came with my laptop originally. I imagine it should be the same exact hardware (it looked like it when I put the laptop back together) especially since the keyboard works and the touchpad works in BIOS.
Is it possible I could revert to Windows 10 and then go back to Windows 11 and it might work?

This is an important information that you forgot to write at the beginning ! Where did you buy the touchpad ? Manufacturer ? Please contact the manufacturer/seller. He must provide a driver. The hardware ID is different from HP and other manufacturers.
Kind regards

No, they are both HP replacement parts.
The part with the touchpad is L22749-001
It is not a third party manufacturer. And again, it works in BIOS, so it is not an issue with the hardware.

Hello @jasonklamm
I understand that the touchpad works in BIOS. At least that shows that it basically works. For Windows 10 and 11, drivers must be provided by the manufacturer. This did not happen in the case of Windows 11 ! You can downgrade (even after more than 10 days) to check if the touchpad works again.
(1) --->>> Downgrade from Windows 11 to Windows 10
(2) Windows 10: Install
ELAN Precision Touchpad Filter Driver | 22.2.22.4 Rev.A | 2.0 MB | Dec 7, 2020 | Download |

Okay but what I'm trying to explain is that this problem started when I installed the new piece of hardware. So I know the touchpad for this computer works with Windows 11. For instance, my wife has the same exact laptop, and she upgraded to Windows 11 the same day I did. Her touchpad has continued to work (like mine did) the entire time. So the issue isn't Windows 11, either.
If I do as you suggest, should I use the first method you suggested (HP cloud recovery) or the second method (directly from Microsoft)?
