Touchpad doesnt register taps. Taps work normally in the Hardware UEFI test screen but not when on windows. Problem started recently, I did not have it when I bought the laptop. I have tried the updating the drivers, installing and reinstalling the touchpad driver, updating windows and holding down the power button for 60s without my charger plugged in, while the laptop was off. Does not seem to be a hardware issue since even when on windows the issue sometimes fixes itself with no clear pattern.
Product Number : B5UH1UA#ABA
Thanks in advance!

Hi @sambuddha12
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Thank you for providing the detailed information and for sharing the troubleshooting you've already completed. We understand that the touchpad taps are working correctly in the HP UEFI Hardware Diagnostics environment, but are intermittently not registering within Windows 11.
Since the touchpad functions normally outside of Windows and the behavior can occasionally correct itself, this does appear to point more toward a Windows software, driver, or input configuration issue rather than a physical touchpad concern.
As you've already updated drivers, reinstalled the touchpad driver, updated Windows, and performed a power reset, the next recommended troubleshooting steps would be:
Verify Touchpad Tap Settings
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad.
- Expand Taps.
- Confirm that Tap with a single finger to single-click is enabled.
- Toggle the setting off, restart the PC, and then enable it again.
Check for HP and Windows Optional Driver Updates
- Navigate to Settings > Windows Update > Advanced options > Optional updates.
- Install any available touchpad, HID, I2C, or chipset-related updates.
- Restart the system after installation.
Reinstall the I2C HID Device
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Human Interface Devices.
- Locate I2C HID Device.
- Right-click and select Uninstall device.
- Restart the notebook and allow Windows to reinstall the device automatically.
Perform an HP Hardware Diagnostics Touchpad Test Again
- Power off the notebook.
- Repeatedly tap Esc during startup and choose F2 - System Diagnostics.
- Run the touchpad tests and confirm they continue to pass consistently.
- This helps verify that the hardware remains responsive.
Test in a Clean Boot Environment
- A recently installed application, utility, or background service can sometimes interfere with precision touchpad functionality.
- Boot Windows with only Microsoft services enabled and check whether tap gestures work normally.
- If they do, gradually re-enable services to identify the software triggering the behavior.
Update BIOS
- Visit the HP support page for the HP OmniBook X Flip 16 and compare the installed BIOS version with the latest available release.
- If a newer BIOS is available, update it while connected to AC power.
Check Touchpad Reset Through Windows
- Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad.
- Turn the touchpad off, wait a few seconds, and turn it back on.
- Test tapping functionality immediately afterward.
Because the touchpad functions properly in HP Hardware Diagnostics and the issue is intermittent within Windows, the strongest indicators currently point to the Windows touchpad stack, I2C communication layer, chipset integration, or a conflicting software process rather than a hardware failure.
If you try the steps above, please let us know whether the touchpad tap function stops working after a particular event such as waking from sleep, resuming from hibernation, connecting peripherals, or after a Windows restart. That detail may help narrow down the Windows component involved.
Take care, and have an amazing day!
