I'd like to put a larger SSD in my mt42. The standard is only a 128 GB. After the OS, Office, etc, not a huge amount is left.

I'm wondering if I could put a 256 GB SSD in? Realize I need the correct form factor, etc, but appropriate units are available. Don't want to buy one just to find out it is not compatible. Looking at HP's website and vendor sites don't show an upgrade, but they also mostly show the unit as having only 32GB of SSD, which is clearly wrong.

Can an mt42 be upgraded to a larger SSD?

It only has M.2 2242 SATA SSD (only 42mm in length). You should be able to upgrade to larger capacity using:

I know the documentation says it's a M.2 2242, but I've opened the case and it's a M.2 2280, the longer version of this SSD. (I suspect I may have a later version mt42 and they made a hardware change, but didn't update the docs.)

The real question I have is whether the hardware/software will support the larger disk. It will certainly install physically, but I want to be sure it will electronically work.

Thanks.
