HP Envy X360 13-ar0xxx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I bought a new HP Envy x360 13.3" today, and have set it up.

 

All is well, except is it showing that there is just 5.91GB of usuable RAM (rather than 8GB). In task manager, it says that 2.1GB is 'Hardware Reserved'. Why is this? Should it be like this? How do I decrease the amount?

 

I've seen the other forum posts but do not seem able to rectify this issue. I've tried the msconfig trick which didn't work either.

Hardware reserved memory is reserved for the use by the BIOS and some drivers for other peripherals.

  

I would suggest you Run Memory Diagnostic Tool and check if it helps.

 

a) Press“Windows Logo” and “W” keys on the keyboard to open the “Settings” search bar.

b) Type “Diagnose your computer’s memory problem” in the search bar and press “Enter” key on the keyboard.

c) Follow the on-screen instructions to run it.

I have run the memory diagnostics tool as advised and it reported that there were no errors.

All system and application programs reserve memory either at startup or during the course of operation. Memory is reserved for inputting data, additional software instructions.

 

(Graphics card performance are self-managed by the system)

 

 High hardware reserved RAM is usually related to BIOS, I did find a third party video this should be useful for you.
