The service manual indicates the max memory is 12 GB (8 GB + 4 GB).
The service manual can't be right regarding the 12 GB max.
If you can install 8 GB in one memory slot, then you can install 8 GB in the second memory slot.
As for installing a 16 GB memory chip...most HP notebooks with two memory slots and an Intel 8th generation core processor will support 2 x 16 GB of memory.
You can run this command to see if you can install a 16 GB memory chip in one or both slots:
1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.
This will open the command prompt.
2. Once the command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and press the Enter key.
There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.
The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.
I'm pretty sure you will find that it supports 2 x 16 GB of DDR4-2400 memory.

Thank you . it works out to 32GB. The reason, I ask is that only 1 slot is working or accepting Ram, the other slot causes a 3 slow x 2 fast blink on caps lock when has Ram installed.
So to get the desired 16GB, which was intended from 2 x 8GB, I will go for 1 x 16GB
