hp 15 af110ca
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

A friend's hp 15 af110ca stopped working: Windows ate itself.

I installed a vanilla version of Win 10 that I downloaded from Microsoft.

I applied all Microsoft updates.

HP driver downloads said that nothing needed updating.

It was wrong: I downloaded new firmware (BIOS) and installed it.

(The HP firmware updater didn't work until I overroad where it should unpack the sp*.exe contents.)

Window i0 is now too slow to use.

It cannot even track the mouse without stuttering.

This is much worse than under the previous Win 10 installation.

I installed Ubuntu 20.04 Linux along side Win10.  It performs quire reasonably.

Why is Win 10 so slow?

Are there missing drivers that I should try to install?
