i recently bought some memory to upgrade  this laptop to 32 gig pc 3200 ram and it wouldn't start up. the screen stayed black and it wouldn't boot till i put the 4 gig and 8 gig sticks back in.  can you suggest any decent priced memory that i can upgrade this too to make it faster?  i would also like to know how much i can add ? i know i have to stick to 3200.

What brand and model memory did you try to install?

 

While not officially supported (see chapter 1 of the service manual), the PC since it has an AMD Ryzen processor should have supported 2 x 16 GB of memory.

 

Maintenance and Service Guide HP 15 Laptop PC

 

Your notebook's AMD Ryzen™ 5 3500U processor can only run the memory at a max speed of 2400 MHz.

 

I recommend this kit since Crucial indicates it is compatible with your model notebook.
