Can HP confirm whether spare part L02267-B31 for the HP EliteBook 1040 G4 is an original HP part with keyboard backlight?
Does HP have any official non-backlit version of this spare part?

@RomanaW,

L02267-B31 is a backlit keyboard (Netherlands).  See this eBay listing (f9 key has a backlight symbol).

HP EliteBook 1040 G4 US Palmrest Cover Keyboard L02267-B31 backlit | eBay UK

The service manual (on pages 22-23) shows two types of keyboards: L02267-xxx and L02268-xxx.

The manual isn't clear, but both types appear to be backlit keyboards. This another eBay listing shows L02268-B31 is a backlit keyboard too.

Apparently, EliteBook 1040 G4 doesn't come with an option for non-backlit keyboards.

That's also the information I could found about it.

But I couldn't find an official emailadres from HP to ask if there were ever  keyboards without backlit for this laptop type produced.

My old one (L02268-type) got some errors weeks ago, so I ordered a replacement with topcase for mimimum risk of damage while installing it.

Advertised as HP L02267-B31 WITH backlight, also with that number as sticker on the keyboard but it doesn't have backlight and seems to be missing the ribbon which my old one did have.

The webshop (Dutch one, so no Ali type website) just did it as " a mistake" that it was stated 3times on the page as " WITH blacklight" but other then sending it back for refund, they don't cooperate for another solution as partially refund where I don't have to reopen the laptop again to take it out & send it back..

So that's why I was searching for official HP information about that L02267-B31 number, since it doesn't state in the information on official HP resellers websites that it is WITH blacklight or if it is ever produced by HP without that function..

Since the service manual is not helpful, only other official site for specs for L02267-B31 is HP PartSurfer.

Click the link below but you'll find that it doesn't say if the part number refers to a backlit or non-backlit keyboard.

I also checked HP Parts Store USA to see if it can provide a better description of the part, but it doesn't.

If the eBay link for L02267-B31 I posted is not enough for you to believe that the part is a backlit keyboard, I don't have any more information to give you.

I really do believe you, no doubt about that 🙂

it was more to found official info when i take legal actions to the webshop that sold me one without backlight under brandname and part-number HP 😉

As you know, a backlight power cable is pretty skinny compared with its data cable, and it may be dark brownish. You are sure that the power cable is not taped onto the body of the keyboard?

If the f9 key on the replacement keyboard has a backlight symbol, its power cable must have been removed.

It does have the backlit symbol, but the backlit ribbon doesn't seemed to be on it.
I only mentioned it after a friend of my installed the new one.
it was when i noticed i missed the backlit, he started comparing the old/new on photo's and realized it doesnt had a backlit ribbon

I think that if non-backlit keyboards come with EliteBook1040 G4, they would have a different part number and the service manual should mention it.

Here's another eBay listing of a L02267-B31 keyboard with a picture of a power cable being clearly shown.

L02267-B31 Top Cover with US Backlit Keyboard for HP EliteBook 1040 G4 #9350223 | eBay UK

Just check the new keyboard to make sure the power cable is not hiding behind the black vinyl cover.

Hopefully, these eBay listings will convince the seller that the keyboard you got is missing the power cable, and you can get a full refund.

Good luck
