i am trying to use a USB C G5 docking station with my HP laptop 15-fc0514

but it will not charge, or recognise multiple screens.................

I think your machine is an HP 15-fc0514sa machine, its specs

It has one hopeless USB Type-C® 5Gbps signaling rate (supports data transfer only and does not support charging or external monitors) port. You machine is NOT compatible with the HP USB-C G5 dock.

 

By the way, it is NOT compatible with ANY USB-C docks.  If you wish to connect 2 external monitors (only-total 3), you can use

  • Monitor 1: HDMI direct cable,
  • Monitor 2: Using a Displaylink Certified USB-A to HDMI adapter such as

                                     USB to HDMI Adapter
