OMEN 17.3 inch Gaming Laptop PC 17-ck2000 (70W99AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

My HP Omen 17-2007ci laptop has a serious problem: the cooling fans randomly stop working or do not spin up at all, even though the BIOS is set to keep them always on (90B). As a result, the laptop overheats and cannot be used reliably.

I have already performed all the standard troubleshooting steps:

  • External and internal ventilation openings have been thoroughly cleaned of dust.

  • BIOS has been updated to the latest available version.

  • Internal components checked: dust removed, fan cables securely connected, blades rotate correctly, no unusual noises.

  • Windows has been completely reinstalled.

  • BIOS setting configured so that the fans should always run.

  • Drivers tested with both the latest and several older versions.

Despite all of this, the problem persists. It is clear that the issue is not related to software or maintenance, but rather to the motherboard itself.

I have found multiple discussions reporting the exact same issue with Omen 17 models on reddit and on this forum
This strongly suggests a design flaw or factory defect.

Unfortunately, my warranty has already expired, which means I cannot simply return or repair the laptop through an authorized service center. However, since this appears to be a widespread problem caused by HP’s engineering, not by user error, I believe HP should acknowledge responsibility and provide an official solution, whether through extended warranty coverage, a recall, or a repair program.

What concrete steps can HP offer in this situation?

Thank you in advance for your response.

@Aerosm1th, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It sounds like you’ve already done a thorough job troubleshooting the issue. There might still be a few additional steps you can take to try to resolve the issue:

Check BIOS Settings Again

Enter BIOS: Restart your laptop, press Esc or F10 repeatedly to enter BIOS.

Fan Settings: Ensure fans are set to always run (check thermal settings).

Run Diagnostics: Look for a fan test in the BIOS or under hardware diagnostics.

Use HP Support Assistant

Open HP Support Assistant on your laptop.

Run hardware diagnostics for cooling and thermal systems.

Perform a Hard Reset

Turn off the laptop, unplug everything, and hold the power button for 30 seconds to clear any issues.

Also, you may refer to this guide: HP PCs - 900, 901, 909, 90A, 90B, 90E, 90F, 911 error is displayed on a black screen | HP® Support

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
