HP Pavilion 15-cs2082tx

After installing two optional HP updates (HP Inc. Firmware and HP Inc. Software Components), my keyboard's numeric zero key and left arrow key suddenly stopped working, while all other keys function properly. Even the other zero key on the keyboard is working. I had recently upgraded my laptop from Windows 10 to Windows 11.

Hi @greatjyotish,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your numeric keypad's zero key and the left arrow key are malfunctioning after the recent HP firmware and software updates. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue.

Check Keyboard Settings:

  • Make sure the Num Lock key is active. This is essential for using the numeric keypad effectively.
  • Check if "Mouse Keys" is enabled in the Ease of Access settings. If it is, disable it as it can interfere with the numeric keypad's functionality.

Reinstall Keyboard Drivers:

  • Open Device Manager by pressing Win + X and selecting Device Manager.
  • Locate Keyboards, right-click on your keyboard driver, and select Uninstall device. Restart your laptop to automatically reinstall the drivers.

Run the Keyboard Troubleshooter:

  • Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters and find the Keyboard troubleshooter. Click Run and follow the prompts.

Boot in Safe Mode:

  • Restart your laptop and enter Safe Mode to see if the keys work there. If they do, a third-party software or setting might be causing the issue.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Sometimes additional updates can resolve new issues. Go to Settings > Windows Update and check for updates.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for your assistance, but unfortunately, it didn't resolve the issue. I contacted Windows 11 support, and they took remote control of my laptop to troubleshoot. Despite their efforts, they were unable to resolve the keyboard problem. They advised me to contact HP for driver support, as my laptop was upgraded to Windows 11 but the drivers were not updated accordingly. Therefore, they recommended reaching out to HP to request driver support.  Please help.

Hi @greatjyotish,

Thank you for your response,

Here are some additional steps you can try to resolve the issue with the zero key on your numeric keypad.

Update HP Drivers:

  • Visit the HP Support website and enter your laptop's model number.
  • Look for any available updates for the keyboard or chipset drivers specific to your Windows 11 version. Download and install them.

Check for Device Conflicts:

  • Open Device Manager again.
  • Expand Keyboards and look for any exclamation marks or errors on devices.
  • Also, check under Human Interface Devices for any devices that might be causing conflicts.

Test the Keyboard on Another Device:

  • If possible, connect an external USB keyboard to your laptop to see if the numeric keypad works there. This can help determine if the issue is with the laptop's keyboard or the system itself.

Reset Keyboard Settings:

  • Go to Settings > Time & Language > Language and click on your preferred language. Click on Options and check the keyboard settings. Remove any additional keyboard layouts that might be causing issues.

Perform a System Restore:

  • If the issue started recently, consider using System Restore to revert your laptop to a state before the firmware updates. To do this:
    • Type "System Restore" in the Windows search bar and select Create a restore point.
    • In the System Properties window, click on System Restore and follow the prompts.

Check for Windows 11 Compatibility:

BIOS Update:

  • Sometimes, issues can stem from outdated BIOS versions. Check the HP Support website for any available BIOS updates for your laptop model, and follow the instructions carefully to update it.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
