My son computer had 03F0 failure.  I assume the PCIE SATA drive died.  I was looking for the build spec on this and didn't see it online.  Is there something available to see what I can upgrade to?

I was going to replace the PCIE, what size max can go in and what gen?

Does this motherboard also have a spot to put a SSD Sata Hard Drive in with a ribbon?

What is the max memory a slot can take?

Without having installation discs that used to come with computers, is there a way to get windows back on the replacement drive?

Thank you

Hi @Bayouitalian,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The 03F0 error usually indicates a problem with the boot device, likely the PCIe M.2 drive not being recognized by the system, or potentially failing. To resolve this, you would typically need to check the drive connections or consider replacing it.

Upgrading PCIe M.2

1. Checking Compatibility and Upgrades:

Maximum Size and Generation: To determine the maximum SSD size, generation, and additional compatible components for your son's computer, you'll need to look up the specifications of the motherboard. This information is usually found on the HP Support website or within the user manual/specification sheet for your specific desktop model. The capacity and type of SSD supported can vary significantly based on the motherboard design.

Finding Specifications: Visit the HP Official HP® Support and enter the model number of the computer. Here, you can access detailed specifications, manuals, and other relevant upgrade information.

2. Adding Additional Drives:

  • SATA SSD Installation: Most desktops support adding a SATA SSD drive. Whether a ribbon cable is needed depends on the motherboard's design and available ports. Some motherboards have dedicated connectors for SATA SSDs, including power and data ports, without additional cables.

3. Memory Upgrade:

  • Max Memory Per Slot: Again, this will depend on the motherboard’s specifications. On HP's support website, you can find the maximum capacity supported per memory slot, as well as the total supported memory.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

It is a failure, I am burying a new m.2 drive.  Is there a way to install the OS on the new drive? Is there a windows license code somewhere to be able to install the OS?

Hi @Bayouitalian,

Thank you for your response.

As you have checked and found an Issue with the hardware.

I understand you want the Windows license code.

Kindly refer to the link below for the cloud recovery tool for the OS installation:
