Middle of the day, working on my laptop.  Restart to update and got the 0F3 error.  Have gone through all the steps listed in every blog I could find.  Is it hopeless?  Hardrive , etc checks all passed.

Hi @KJAX4999,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating this issue must be, especially after the system was working normally before the restart.

Since you are receiving the 0F3 error, this does appear similar to a 3F0 boot device or hard drive-related issue. Even if the initial checks passed, we recommend performing a BIOS Recovery first, as startup or BIOS corruption can sometimes occur after an update.

Please try the following steps:

BIOS Recovery

  1. Turn the notebook completely off.
  2. Disconnect all external devices except the charger.
  3. Press and hold the Windows + B keys together.
  4. While holding those keys, press and hold the Power button for 2–3 seconds.
  5. Release the Power button but continue holding Windows + B for several more seconds until the BIOS Recovery screen appears.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions if the recovery launches.

If the issue continues, please run the HP Hardware Diagnostics Extensive Test:

  1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
  2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
  3. On the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu, click System Tests.
  4. Click Extensive Test.

Once completed, please let us know the results and share any Failure ID or additional error messages displayed. Also include the exact laptop model number, if possible, so we can continue assisting further.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
