HP Gaming Pavilion - 15-cx0996nl
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi all.

I can't install Windows 11 22H2 even if the Windows Update informs that the upgrade is available and the system is compatible.

I've tried more that 2 times. The error code is 0xC1900101. Sometime blue screen appears.

Bios installed: last version, Aug 22 - F.28 Rev.A

Pc Health check returns a positive result.

I'd like to update from Windows 10 and not to make a new install.

Any ideas?

Thank a lot.

Hello @NotebookUserN

Sorry to hear that you are having problems ... I would like to help you.

You should know that especially new Windows builds contain bugs and are delivered to the annoyance of the users! It is always advisable to wait some time after the rollout until at least the most important bugs are fixed. Furthermore the question arises to me, which "actual" benefit you have to use 22h2 ? I leave the decision to you.

Recommendation and solution

The solution is that there is no solution, only

(1) ... use Windows 11 21H2 or Windows 10

(2) ... wait for new HP drivers and Windows update information (Microsoft)

(3) ... contact HP Support and ask for driver updates

Kind regards

Hello NotebookUserN.

This problem has been around for many years, and different versions of Windows 10, it's usually caused by a problematic device driver during the upgrading process. You can read some tips and potential resolutions here learn.microsoft.com and here Fixing the Windows Installation Error 0xC1900101 .  The first thing you should try is updating all device drivers, especially of REALTEK devices, and even disabling the realtek devices (for example wifi-ethernet from BIOS options) and uninstalling their drivers.

- I'd like to update from Windows 10 and not to make a new install. Any ideas?

Why not go from Windows 10 to Windows11 21H2 first, and then try to update to the new version?

Hi TzortzisG,

thanks a lot. I'll try other fix as for "Fixing the Windows Installation Error 0xC1900101" link.

I was waiting 21H2 because the same error happens with 21H2.

Again, thanks a lot for your support.

Dear Banhien/All,

Thanks. I'll try with your suggestions, too.

Please, note that In the past I've changed the original M2 SSD with a bigger one (Samsung SSD 970 EVO PLUS 500Gb).
Seems that in this forum no other 15-cx0996nl user can't upgrade to W11; so i suspect this could be the problem.
Do you think it could affect the installation?

Again, Thanks a lot for your support.

Hi NotebookUserN,

I've personally had similar problems with Realtek devices' drivers and disabling them allowed me to upgrade. I saw on your drivers page that you have a lot of Realtek hardware,  possibly LAN, BT, WIFI and AUDIO. Try to disable as much of that from BIOS and the rest from device manager. Uninstall all of their drivers. You should be able to proceed!
