Laptop has Optane originally.  It lost contact with the old hard drive.  I  have to replace the hard drive with a 1 TB sata .  I had to disable Optane in the bios and erase the old drive before it would see a drive and allow reloading Windows.  I have the replacement disk and need to know how to configure the partitions upon installation.  Any insight is appreciated.

You don't manually configure the partitions -- you let the Windows Installer do that on its own.  You can always go into Disk Management after the install is done if you want to do partition resizing.

My own advice is NOT to use MS media to do the install, as that will only provide generic drivers that will not provide full hardware functionality on a laptop.

If your PC is a 2016 model or newer, you should see if you can make a bootable USB recovery drive using the HP cloud recovery tool on a working PC.

The recovery drive can then be used to install Win10 and the HP drivers and utilities that originally came with your PC.
