I have noticed that 2-4 year-old Windows 10 computers that are Windows 11 compatible have a lower success rate for upgrading to Win 11. These computers will BSOD somewhere around 80-90% of the upgrade process. When I look in the event viewer to find the dmp file to troubleshoot the issue it shows the dmp file failed to be created.
Here are the steps I've found to work best on newer computers:
1. Apply Windows Updates
2. Download and apply drivers from HP.com. I'll run the detect function to find recommended drivers and also search/apply other drivers. Especially the latest video, network, and BIOS updates.
3. MSconfig.exe, Services, Hide all MS services, Disable All
4. Reboot
5. Suspend Bitlocker
6. run Win 11 22H2 ISO/setup.exe
Computer models I've noticed this happening include:
EliteDesk 800 G4 DM
Prodesk 600 G5 mini
Probook 450 G5
Zbook 15u G5
I've seen this happen at least 20 times.
It's got to be a driver that needs to be updated or a program, but I can't figure out which one. Does anybody have any ideas?
