Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

About earlier this month, when I started my laptop, it would boot with this increasingly loud buzzing sound from the typical small whine with some light thumping noises.

But now, it's gotten progressively worse, to the point where it does it every 5 minutes. It goes from being silent, then the whine gets louder until its starts its robotic squeal again. Then when it stops, the fan kicks in fast blowing cold air.

I noticed when it does this, the disk is stressed out at 100%, so I assume it must be the HDD being worn out and even dying. If it might be something else, I would be glad to know.

If you need help further more identifying the sound, I can possibly post a file or link of the sound. I'm afraid to further damage the laptop.

We have no way of diagnosing issues with your PC based purely on the noise it makes.

So, what you should try, is running the built-in diagnostics to see what they find.

To do that reboot the PC, pressing the Esc key repeatedly, and when the HP Startup Menu appears, select F2.

Then, report back what it finds.
