I kept getting a CMOS error whenever I started up the computer when it wasn't plugged in. I took it to our trusted computer repair shop and he determined that it was a corrupted BIOS. He explained how it could have happened, although it stays plugged in except when I travel. The BIOS could not be repaired and, to make sure the laptop didn't die when I was on the road, I had to go out today and spend almost $900 on a new computer. My repair guy says that HP and Dell BIOS get corrupted fairly easy and they are aware but don't seem to do anything about it or to fix it so the BIOS doesn't get corrupted. If I have a firearm and it keeps misfiring, the gun manufacturer will fix it and make it right. I guess HP has never heard of a "recall" to fix the problem. This started after the last update and after I updated to Windows 11.
Any thoughts?

Sounds like your machine
- does NOT have CMOS (or RTC) battery and
- its main battery is dead (or not function properly),
You need to work on battery first. Please check the following Guide

Replacing the battery was the first step I took. I have also tried a different charger. When I power it up without it being plugged in is when I get the error message. If I power it up with it plugged into a wall socket, I have no problems at all. Our local repair shop said that the BIOS was corrupted probably during a recent update that could have been interrupted. I'm not sure how that could have happened as I keep it plugged in all the time, unless we had a power outage.
Thank you for your response. I'm at a loss.
