Stuck on preparing automatic repair for a few days won’t turn on

@Rachel431, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

I understand your HP Envy x360 is stuck on the “Preparing Automatic Repair” screen for a few days and won’t boot into Windows. Let’s work together to get your PC back up and running.

Perform a Hard Reset

This helps clear temporary memory and reset hardware connections.

  • Turn off the laptop completely.
  • Disconnect all external devices (USB drives, printers, etc.).
  • Unplug the power adapter.
  • Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power and try turning it on again.

Boot into Recovery Mode

If the system is still stuck, try accessing the recovery environment:

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Turn it on and immediately press the Esc key repeatedly (once every second) until the Startup Menu appears.
  • Press F11 to enter System Recovery.

If F11 works, you can try Startup Repair or System Restore from there.

Use HP Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI)

To rule out hardware issues:

  • Turn off the PC.
  • Turn it on and immediately press Esc repeatedly, then press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  • Run the System Tests (especially the Hard Drive and Memory tests).

Boot from HP Recovery Media (if F11 doesn't work)

If recovery options don’t load, you may need to use a bootable USB recovery drive:

Reset Windows (if accessible)

If you manage to boot into recovery:

  • Choose Troubleshoot > Reset this PC.
  • You can choose to keep your files or remove everything.

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.

Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
