recently bought a brand new HP Laptop 17-cn3034wm (8R077UA) which runs Windows 11 - 64bits and uses an SSD. I restarted the laptop as required after a windows update. Unfortunately i got a "drive not detected error (3F0). I only recently started using SSD so i'm not familiar with its issues. I run the hardware tests immediatley as requested and everything was fine including the SSD which was detected for the test. So, i created a windows usb boot drive from Microsoft and reinstalled windows all over again. Unfortunately the error occured again and now the SSD can't even be detected at all. I only realised i should have created the usb boot drive from HP's official website. I have done all that but the drive can't still be detected when i try to boot from the new usb flash drive (official). I tried creating a Bios recovery flash drive on another laptop but, after the bios file has been extracted onto the laptop, the "HP System Bios Update Uitility" interface for completing the process won't pop up even after disabling security softwares. Windows + B could not also resolve the bios recovery issue. I get the error message that the bios file can't be found or is corrupted.
NOTE: I've rerun tests on all the hardwares(except the SSD which this time can't be detected) and everything's in perfect shape. What i have not done is to open the laptop to check the SSD connection. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi @Mike4713,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you’re facing a tricky issue with your HP 17-cn3034wm laptop and its SSD. Here's a structured approach to diagnose and potentially resolve the problem.
Check SSD Connection
- Power Down: Ensure the laptop is completely powered off and unplugged.
- Access the SSD: Carefully open the laptop’s back panel. Look for the SSD and check if it's properly seated in its slot. Sometimes, physical disconnections or loose connections can cause detection issues.
Update BIOS
- Recreate BIOS Flash Drive: Make sure you have the correct BIOS update file from HP’s official website. The file should be properly extracted and placed on a FAT32-formatted USB drive.
- BIOS Recovery Steps: Try creating the BIOS recovery USB drive again:
- Format a USB drive to FAT32.
- Download the correct BIOS update file from HP.
- Rename the BIOS file to HPBIOSUPDREC (if required) and place it on the USB drive.
- Plug the USB drive into the laptop and try to perform a BIOS recovery by holding the Windows + B keys while pressing the Power button.
Check for SSD Detection in BIOS
- Enter BIOS/UEFI: Power on the laptop and press the BIOS key (usually F2, F10, or ESC) to enter the BIOS settings.
- Check SSD Detection: Look for the SSD under the Storage or Boot options in BIOS. If it's not detected here, it might indicate a hardware issue with the SSD or the connector.
Test SSD on Another System
- External Enclosure: If you have an external SSD enclosure or adapter, you can try connecting the SSD to another computer to see if it’s detected. This will help confirm if the SSD itself is faulty.
Recreate Windows Installation USB
- Ensure Correct Creation: Recreate the Windows installation USB using the Media Creation Tool from Microsoft’s official site. Make sure the process completes successfully and that the USB drive is properly formatted.
By following these steps, you can systematically address the issue and determine whether it’s a hardware fault or something that can be fixed through software or BIOS updates.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
