So, my laptop doesn't have any OS right now, I was trying to boot Ubuntu LTS using a USB Flash drive but I got the "hard disk 3F0 error", I did the hard disk test and all other tests available but every test "passed" without any issue,so there's no issue with my hard disk, I've checked that there's no issue with the flash drive too, Can someone help me?

Hi @Krish3212

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.

The "Hard Disk 3F0 Error" typically indicates that the system cannot detect the bootable device, such as the hard disk or the USB flash drive. Given that your hard disk tests passed and there is no issue with the flash drive, the problem might be with the boot order or a configuration in the BIOS.

Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

1. Check BIOS Boot Settings

  • Enter BIOS: Power on your laptop and press F10 repeatedly (or Esc and then F10) to enter the BIOS setup.
  • Check Boot Order: Ensure that the USB drive is set as the first boot device.
    • Go to the Boot Menu or Boot Order section in the BIOS.
    • Move the USB drive to the top of the boot order list.
  • Check Secure Boot & Legacy Support:
    • In the Security or Boot section, disable Secure Boot (if enabled).
    • Enable Legacy Support or CSM (Compatibility Support Module) if it's disabled. Some Ubuntu versions might need this enabled.

2. Recreate Bootable USB

Sometimes, the USB creation process can cause issues. Recreate the Ubuntu bootable USB to ensure it is properly configured:

  • Use a tool like Rufus or Balena Etcher (on another working computer) to create the bootable USB.
  • Ensure that the Partition Scheme is set to GPT if your laptop uses UEFI (most modern laptops do) and set it to MBR for legacy BIOS systems.

3. Check for UEFI Compatibility

  • Make sure you're using the correct version of Ubuntu that supports UEFI (most modern versions do).
  • If you're booting using UEFI, make sure that your USB flash drive is formatted in FAT32, as UEFI systems typically require FAT32 for bootable media.

4. Try Booting from Another USB Port

  • Sometimes, the laptop’s USB port might not detect the boot drive properly. Try switching to another USB port, preferably a USB 2.0 port if available.

5. Run Ubuntu Live USB in "Try Ubuntu" Mode

  • Once the boot is successful, select the "Try Ubuntu" option to run Ubuntu without installing it. This can help you verify if the boot process is functioning correctly before installation.

6. Check if the Hard Disk is Detected in BIOS

  • Even though the tests passed, go to the Storage section in the BIOS and verify if the hard disk is listed as a detected device. This will ensure that the BIOS recognizes your hard drive.

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
