8460p
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hello,

i have a problem with my HP 8460p Notebook. I accidentally deleted the Recovery Partition when i installed Windows 7 on the system. I tried a Recovery CD from my Workplace but that not worked the way i wanted. In the System Information Windows on the System Properties there should be the Name of the Laptop displayed. From what i unterstand therefore i need the Recovery Partition Backup.

Is there a Way to download it? Does it maybe only help when i buy a HP Care Pack and send the Notebook to HP?

Thanks,

Best Regards

David

Hello;

Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!

Sorry, but HP does not provide downloads for the Recovery Media; instead, you have to order a set of disks or a USB stick from them.

I'm not in a position to answer your questions about the Care Packs -- and for those, you really need to contact HP Customer Support directly.  You can also order the Recovery Media from them.

If you live in the US or Canada, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1

If you live elsewhere, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html

NOTE: After you get through, stay on the line until you are finally able to talk to some one -- it can take a while!

If you have trouble finding a phone number, then try: 1 (800) 474-6836

However, HP Customer Support is generally not available on the weekends, so you might have to wait until Monday to contact them.

Good Luck

I called the Support on Friday and they said they have technicals Problems and that I should try it on again Monday.

My Goal in this is i want the Recovery Partition back so that i can restore the Notebook to Factory defaults with the F11 Key and without the need of a optical media.

I read in a other post on this Forum that when the recovery partition is once deleted there is now way to take it back. Is that right?

From a User named Zintain:

"Why your CD's are failing I'm not sure, but to answer you question....No, the CD's wll not restore your recovery partition.  Once that partition is gone, you no longer have the ability to get that partition back.  The CD's will not recreate that partition, they are to restore the computer as the partition would if the partition gets damaged or removed do to repartitioning or hard drive failure.  They will restore Windows for you, and all drivers and programs, but will not restore the recovery partition."

I used the OS Disk and the Recovery Disk from my Workplace.

I have all Drivers and HP Preinstalled Applications but 2 things are missing:

First the Recovery Partition and the Recovery Manager and second the HP Logo and Modelname from "System" in the Control Panel.

Is the Recovery Kit send from HP the same as these 2 Discs or is it the complete Factory-Image from the Laptop?

Thanks
