Hi @AH317

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Absolutely! That little white keyboard icon in the lower-right corner of your boot login screen is the On-Screen Keyboard toggle. 🧩⌨️

It’s part of Windows' accessibility features, designed to help users enter their password using a virtual keyboard—especially useful if:

  • Your physical keyboard isn’t responding at boot
  • You’re using a touchscreen device
  • You need assistive input options

When clicked, it brings up a full virtual keyboard so you can type your password without relying on hardware keys. It’s safe, built-in, and doesn’t indicate any problem unless it appears unexpectedly or interferes with login.

If it started showing up recently and you’d prefer it not to,  Here's how to disable the On-Screen Keyboard from showing on your Windows login screen. 🧼🔐

Step-by-Step to Turn Off On-Screen Keyboard at Boot

🧭 Method 1: Through Ease of Access Center

  1. Press Win + R to open the Run dialog.
  2. Type control and hit Enter to open Control Panel.
  3. Go to Ease of Access > Ease of Access Center.
  4. Click Use the computer without a mouse or keyboard.
  5. Uncheck “Use On-Screen Keyboard”.
  6. Click Apply and then OK.

🧠 Method 2: Through Settings

  1. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Keyboard.
  2. Toggle On-Screen Keyboard to Off.

Note: This method disables it inside your Windows session. You might still see it during startup if set via sign-in options or Group Policy.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
