Hi @M_14,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

This can happen due to:

  1. Changes in account type
  2. Windows updates
  3. Accidental deletion or corruption of the admin profile

Recommended Steps to Restore Admin Rights

  1. Check for Other Admin Accounts
    • Press Windows + R, type netplwiz, and press Enter.
    • See if there is another account listed as Administrator.
    • If yes, log in with that account and change your account back to Administrator:
    • Control Panel → User Accounts → Change account type → Administrator
  2. Enable the Built-in Administrator Account
    • If no other admin accounts exist, you can enable the hidden Windows built-in Administrator:
      1. Boot into Safe Mode with Command Prompt:
        • Hold Shift while clicking Restart → Troubleshoot → Advanced options → Startup Settings → Safe Mode with Command Prompt
      2. In the Command Prompt, type:
      3. net user administrator /active:yes
      4. Restart and log in as Administrator, then restore admin rights to your regular account.
  3. Use a Windows Recovery / Reset Option (Make sure data is backed before opting this option)
    • If the above does not work, you can perform a Windows Reset while keeping files:
  • Settings → Update & Security → Recovery → Reset this PC → Keep my files
  • After the reset, you will be able to set up a new admin account.

I hope this helps.
