Unless W10 was previously installed on the PC, you would need a valid W10 product key because there is no free upgrade to W10 anymore from Windows 7 or Windows 8.

The 840 G1 either came with Windows 8.1 or FreeDOS.

The first thing you should do is to check to see that there is a Windows product key in the BIOS by downloading and installing the free Showkey Plus app from the Microsoft Store.

ShowKeyPlus - Free download and install on Windows | Microsoft Store

It will show you the Windows OEM product key in the BIOS and the version of Windows the key is good for.

If there is no Windows OEM product key in the BIOS, then the PC came with FreeDOS and you would also need to purchase a W10 product key to activate Windows.

If Windows 10 was not previously installed, then I recommend you install the version of Windows the OEM product key is good for if you don't want to pay for a product key.
