Suddenly, my laptop (hp spectre 360X Convertible 15-eb1xxx) does not boot anymore. The message "Abnormal status reported by Rapid Storage Technology UEFI driver" is shown on the screen before a menu (kind of) opens showing "Boot Device Not Found // Please install an operating system on your hard disk. // Hard Disk - (3F0) // F2 - System Diagnostics // etc."
I already did all the systems diagnostics under "F2" with the result "passed". How do I get the laptop running again?

@Thomas0475, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.
The error message you're seeing "Abnormal status reported by Rapid Storage Technology UEFI driver" followed by "Boot Device Not Found (3F0)" typically indicates a problem with the system's ability to detect the SSD or boot partition. Since you've already run diagnostics via F2 and everything passed, here are the next steps to help restore functionality:
Check BIOS Settings
- Power off the laptop.
- Press Esc repeatedly after powering on to enter the Startup Menu, then press F10 to enter BIOS Setup.
- Navigate to System Configuration > SATA Operation or Storage Configuration.
- Ensure Intel Rapid Storage Technology (RST) is enabled if your system uses RAID.
- Alternatively, try switching to AHCI mode if RST is causing issues (note: this may require reinstalling Windows if the OS was installed under RAID).
Check Boot Order
- In BIOS, go to Boot Options.
- Ensure the internal SSD is listed as a boot device.
- If not, the SSD may not be detected, proceed to next step.
Check SSD Detection
- In BIOS, under Storage Information, verify if the SSD is listed.
- If not detected:
- Power off the laptop.
- Disconnect power and peripherals.
- Hold the power button for 15 seconds to reset embedded controller.
- Power on and recheck BIOS.
Try HP UEFI Hardware Diagnostics (Outside Windows)
- From the Startup Menu (Esc), press F2 to launch diagnostics.
- Run Storage Test > Extensive Test to confirm SSD health.
- If it passes, the issue may be with the bootloader or OS.
Attempt Recovery or Reinstallation
If the SSD is detected but the OS won’t boot:
- Use HP Cloud Recovery Tool to create a recovery USB: HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool in Windows 11 and 10 | HP® Support
- Boot from the USB and follow prompts to reinstall Windows.
Update BIOS and Drivers
- If you regain access to Windows or via another PC:
- Visit the official HP support page for your model: Official HP® Support
- Download and install the latest BIOS and Intel RST drivers.
HP PCs - Hard disk 3F0 boot device not found error | undefined
Additional Notes
- If the SSD is not detected at all, it may have failed or become disconnected. In that case, service may be required.
I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.
Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
