Elitebook 8770W
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hi, Good evening,

Since the last installation of the Windows 7 OS and an update with the latest BIOS 68IAV Ver.F71 from 04/19/2019 my Elitebook 8770W seems slower while before all the cores were in service.

I was able to make this observation of degraded functioning with the task manager (taskmgr.exe) but also by noting that the performance index had gone from 7.3 to 6.1.

How can I fix it to get back to working with all hearts and having superior performance?

Is this due to the evolution of Bios?

I saw that it was not necessary to modify the number of cores via the interface under penalty of crashing the PC and having to redo an installation.

I did not find any info on this topic on the HP site regarding maintenance.

Thank you for your response or your help.

Sincerely.

Hi.

Yes, problem appeared, because you've updated BIOS.

New BIOSes fix vulnerabilities as Meltdown, Spectre and others, that used by hackers to get unauthorized  access to CPU and run any code. You can read about it using search.

So, if you need a performance, not security, you can try to flash older version of BIOS. It bay be impossible, cause at all latest HP BIOSes I've seen attention string about BIOS downgrade impossible. But all was professional-level computers, so, maybe it is possible for home customers.
