Pavilion 17e 189nr
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have also received the Accelerometerst.exe error after doing an update for Windows 10. My laptop  is 3 yrs old and  it came with Win 8.1  --it was updated to the "free" version of  Win 10--snuck in as a regular update . Lets just say I'm not an "eager updater"

I wasn't sure which version of the 3D DriveGuard to use and if the free version of Win 10  would make a difference.

In one of the previous posts it was mentioned that HP's driver for a paticular laptop  'did not work'.  According to HP website today--the HP driver for my series laptop would be sp77811. The one suggested in the previous post here is sp78033.  And, in another post the newest driveguard driver from HP is sp75979. So I'm confused --maybe any would work? Don't want to have to try them all to find out.

When the update was done , my update history  listed a "Security update for Adobe Flash",  and  "Windows Update KB4021572, and KB4020102".   When I went back the to update history later , the KB4021572 wasn't on the list any more!! And I hadn't deleted it.  It was the update to "version 1703". And the 4020102 was a "cumulative" update.  Did one have duplicate info ?  Not sure theres an answer to that issue.

Any clarification would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi:

Here is what you need to do...

Open the Windows Control Panel, select Programs and Features, right click the entry for the HP 3D DriveGuard, and select Uninstall.

When this has completed, restart the notebook.

When you are at the Windows desktop, download and install this version of HP 3D DriveGuard at the link below, and restart the PC.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp78001-78500/sp78033.exe

sp78033 is the newest version.

Thanks Paul,

Did what you suggested--restarted and no accelerometerST error!

Still don't know why the Windows update kb 4021572 listing disappeared from my update list.

You're very welcome.

Unfortunately, I wouldn't know why the updates would have disappeared.

However, since the W10 cumulative update is what it says it is--cumulative, the information that was in the one that disappeared will also be in the next rendition of the cumulative update.

Hi

I had the same issue come up - HP Envy 15-ah150sa if it matters.

The forum has been extremely useful, so thank you from me for helping and explaining this.

Some background from my issue:

The Microsoft Win 10 trigger in my case was the auto applied update to "Creators Edition"

- somewhere during the several reboots and couple of hours of waiting to put passwords in etc, Driveguard stopped working.

- note Microsoft gives lots of assurances during the process that there is no risk, no issues and you will get all these wonderful extras.........

I have noticed the drive light doesnt flicker anymore when the disk is accessed - part of the same "improvement"?

Anyhow before I found your fix I tried the "?" utility - it just kept complaining that Driveguard needed a fix.

- It didnt try this version (or possibly couldnt remove the old version 1st - wierd that HP utilities dont drive HP utilities very well).

i then tried installing the original image file after de-installing Driveguard - no improvement, but fair enough, old version.

I then did a manual search for the "latest" driver for this against the PC model number and got one SP71811 - which given your post (and that it worked on a download an hour later) obviously isnt the latest patch....

As an aside, I was not impressed that the install runs, then just dies silently- although the latest one does seem to have installed correctly.....

- I expect software to TELL me what is going on so I have a chance to know when it is finished and that it was successful, and what should happen next.

- doesnt feel like this passed anyones formal quality testing

The flip side is the HP web side and some of the software seems inconsistent, badly maintained and pretty badly documented

- I wouldnt put up with this at work......
