Hi @Winclub,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I understand how it must feel when you’re trying to access the Command Prompt and instead see a message about installing the operating system.

Could you please share the exact HP model number of your device and whether you recently made any changes (like a reset, update, or reinstall attempt)?

Here are a few steps you can try:

01.Check Boot Device

Your system may be trying to boot from the wrong source.

Restart → Press F9 (Boot Menu)

Ensure the primary hard drive/SSD is selected

If you see only 'Network Boot' or 'USB', your internal drive may not be detected

02.Run HP Diagnostics

HP laptops have built-in hardware diagnostics to check storage.

Restart → Press F2 (System Diagnostics)

Run the Storage Test

Confirm if the hard drive/SSD is detected and healthy

03.Check BIOS Settings

Sometimes BIOS settings reset and disable the internal drive.

Restart → Press F10 (BIOS Setup)

Under System Configuration → Boot Options, confirm your drive is listed

Ensure UEFI Boot Mode is enabled

04.Attempt Recovery

If the OS is missing or corrupted, recovery may be needed.

Restart → Press F11 (HP Recovery Manager)

If Recovery Manager opens, follow prompts to restore Windows

If it doesn’t, you may need a Windows installation USB

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
