HP support 021121 Adverse Effect, Win7 to Win 10
Dear HP Support, I decided to Install Windows 10 on my HP Netbook after reading an article "Heres-how-you-can-still-get-a-free-windows-10-upgrade" at https://www.zdnet.com/article/heres-how-you-can-still-get-a-free-windows-10-upgrade/
.
The Netbooks specifications are:
HP Netbook, Intel Atom CPU N455 1.66 Ghz, 1.0 GB Ram, ReadyBoost Cache 1.8 GB, 32 bits, Windows 7 Starter, Primary Hard drive 214 GB, Secondary Hard drive N/A
I completely backed up the computer on 10/31/21, and downloaded Windows 10 on 11/1/21, completing around 6 PM. On the evening of 11/1/21 I began using the computer. The only anomaly noted was a slowness with the mouse pointer. AT the end of the evening, I opted to "Sleep" the computer instead of a complete shut down.
When I tried to power up the computer 30 minutes later, the only response was a light showing the computer was on, but the screen did not power on. Because of this I connected a stand alone monitor, and received no signal there either.
I am at a loss as to what to do next. JC

I'm not surprised the forced Win10 upgrade failed -- as 1GB of RAM is not nearly enough to run Windows 10.
You should NOT have forced the upgrade as that almost certainly destroyed the HP recovery files in the process -- it is known to have a history of this, and had you asked here first, I would have told you that.
About all you can do now is contact HP and see if you can order HP Recovery Media -- but my guess is that with a PC this old, HP no longer stocks that media.
You should not just believe what you see in a computer magazine and go charging ahead, hoping for the best.
I know of nowhere you can get Win7 media anymore, so I can't provide you any links for download the media or buying it.
I am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor represent, HP

Dear WaWood, thanks for responding.
Sorry, I misspoke, the Netbook has been upgraded to 2 GB Ram. It turns out that for some reason, I had to have internet access to boot up the first time. I have only intermittent internet access at home. I just arrived at the library, and did nothing other than plug the unit in, and attach the mouse, and it booted right up!
So that problem is solved. What a relief!
Now the only problem I see is slow optical mouse pointer speed. I have reset the speed at maximum, but the mouse pointer lags. I tried using the touch pad but same problem. Do you know the solution?
