When I power up, press ESC to get into the Startup Menu and press F11 for "System Recovery" it takes me to Ubuntu. I want my Windows back. I tried to download an *.iso copy from windows 7 but it does not accept the product key on the laptop. They instruct me contact HP.

That is because the hard disk is formatted to a type that Windows does not recognize.
F11 does not work because the HP Recovery Manager in the 😧 partition was deleted during the Ubuntu install.
The following HP Partner sells recovery kits. (in the US and Canada only) They do have a recovery kit for your notebook for $27.00 USD. See the following link.

An HP recovery disk set or usb recovery media is the least expensive way to return Windows to your notebook.
Otherwise, you will have to pay for a complete licensed Windows OS installer and that can be expensive.
The next time you see "click here to install to hard disk", don't do it.
You will need to use a Windows install disk of any kind to return your hard disk to a format that Windows can recognize.

your PC came with HP s version of windows
do not download, MS version, (that is retail license, yours is HP OEM license, only)
my guess, totally blind
is your Linux , erased all partitions on the HDD, this kills the ON BOARD, HP Installer DEAD. for ever.
dv6-6c53cl
this PC came with w7 or w8 64b, so what you do is buy the media kit from HP, click support tab above..
that matches the COA sticker on the bottom of the PC
the COA tells you , w7 istalled or w8. then buy the correct matching kit.
this will install HP W7 /8 and all HP drivers that make your PC run just like day 1 new.
same anwer on all HP PC's
Btw , if you ask on support and give full serial number to HP , they tell YOU what it came with new.

cl: Club Model (These models are available only through some clubs like Costco and Sam's Club)
last:
the media kits, can be Cd/dvd or USB memory stick install, read the page tell them what you have and buy it

hint>?next time do not erase all partitions, and not be here. LOL
