Good evening. After hours of Remote downloading of a huge workshop program. Technician asked me to enter Bios Boot Option and turn off "secure boot" so downloaded software settings will upload.
I did so....now I am locked out of windows as my password is lost. When I request a new one/send request to my email....nothing happens.
I tried reversing the setting and turning back on "Secure Boot" ...nothing. still locked out. How do I reset my password. My email is working. Password reset code is not in spam or trash.

@MogMan64, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Based on what I see, your screen is currently on the Windows lock screen, and there are no visible error messages or prompts related to password reset or login issues.
Here’s how we can proceed to help you regain access:
Try Password Reset Again
- On the login screen, click “I forgot my password” or “Reset password”.
- Make sure your device is connected to the internet (Wi-Fi or Ethernet).
- Follow the prompts to send a reset code to your Microsoft account email or phone.
If you're not receiving the reset email:
- Double-check the email address shown on the reset screen.
- Try logging into your Microsoft account from another device at https://account.live.com/password/reset to see if the reset works there.
Use Another Device to Reset Password
- Go to https://account.live.com/password/reset on your phone or another computer.
- Choose “I forgot my password” and follow the steps.
- If successful, return to your laptop and try logging in with the new password.
If You Use a Local Account (Not Microsoft Account)
If your account is not linked to a Microsoft email (i.e., it’s a local account), you’ll need to:
- Boot into Safe Mode with Command Prompt.
- Use command-line tools to enable the hidden Administrator account or reset the password.
Let me know if you think you're using a local account, and I can guide you through that process.
If Nothing Works – Use a Password Reset Disk or Recovery Tool
If you created a password reset disk earlier, you can use it now.
Otherwise, you may need to:
- Use a Windows installation USB to boot into recovery mode.
- Use tools like Offline NT Password & Registry Editor or Hiren’s BootCD PE to reset the password (advanced users only).
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
